Phnompenh Central Market is located right at the heart of the city. Although its Khmer name "Psar Thmei" means "new market", it is commonly known as the "central market".
The Central Market was built in 1937 in Art Deco and maybe the finest example of this architectural style all over Southeast Asia. The market features a huge dome and four wings with beautiful bright ochre. Virtually, you may find everything here ranging from electronic equipment, watches, bags, suitcases, food to jewelry & clothing, including the Khmer scarves krama.
Not only an ideal venue for shopping, the Phnompenh Central Market offers a fantastic chance to explore the Cambodian culture. Vibrant, full of activities, colors and smells, it gets you truly integrated into local life, definitely well worth a visit.
